im going to purchase a new iphone 4s soon. I currently have an iphone 3gs with iOS5 and have it backed up on icloud. Will i be able to keep all my things when i get the new iphone?

Yes, if you restore from a backup made from your 3Gs, and make sure you use the same iTunes store account so that apps, etc. can be updated.
