this mac os can't be installed on this computer

Hello

I have this problem i can't resolve

I want to put my macbook pro to cero. To manufacturer settings.

I have the mac os 10.6.3 Disc Version 1.0 2Z691-6653-A that came with my Mac.

When want to start up from the disc and reinstalled Snow Leopard I have a pop up saying "This mac os can't be installed in this computer" just after the choose of language.

I have tried erasing the disc with disc utility (Journaled) before start up.

Also during start up after first screen where you choose lenguage.

Also erasing partitions.

But nothing happend.

Always the same "This mac os....."

I have read about this problem, and it sopused to be something about the software that come with the computer is a different version the one of the disc it come with the computer.

Anyone has a solution?

Thanks

Hernan

The installer won't let you downgrade. So you have to boot from the Install DVD, run Disk Utility and Erase the boot volume (Macintosh HD). Then quit Disk Utility and run the installer again. Note that ALL info on the computer will be lost, so be sure to have a backup if there's anything there you want to save.

Be absolutely sure the Install DVD is for that specific model. Else you will be left with a non-functioning Mac and nothing to restore it from.

Courcoul

I ve tried to do all you say (boot from the Install DVD, run Disk Utility and Erase the boot volume (Macintosh HD). Then quit Disk Utility and run the installer again),

But I still have the same message This mac os can't be installed in this computer.

The disc I'm sure it's the one it came with the macbook.

I have also tried with other disk, even in a macstore here in argentina with the guy from service.

How can I know the version of Snow Leopard that came with my computer? May apple put the wrong snow leopard in the box?? It seams really unlikely.....

Thanks!

have installed 10.6.6 in my computer (That's how it came from the macstore miami)

But the disc is 10.6.3

Your problem is that your computer can't run a lower OS version than the one that was installed on it when it came from the factory, and you're trying to install a lower version. You are using the wrong disk. Retail Snow Leopard DVDs contain 10.6.3, so you can't use a retail disc, and the disk that Apple shipped with your computer contains 10.6.6. If you can't find the right disc for your machine, or if the store in Miami mistakenly gave you the wrong disc instead of the one that was originally packed with your machine, you can call AppleCare and order duplicates of the original discs. Have your machine's serial number handy when you call.

Yes, the OP says that. Unfortunately the OP also says that 10.6.6 was installed on the machine when it came from the store, and that contradicts the former statement. The evidence of his or her inability to install 10.6.3 on the machine suggests strongly that the latter statement is the accurate one, if either is. If the machine was opened and unpacked in the store, it's quite possible that the store gave him or her the wrong disc instead of the one that actually did come with it, resulting in the present predicament. We don't have enough facts to be sure about what happened, but we can be sure that if the OP orders duplicates of the discs that were really shipped with the computer, they will work.

I really wish Apple would publish a list of its part numbers for all the model-specific discs that have been shipped with Macs over the last five years or so and all the retail discs that have been issued over the same period, enabling anyone to check and see whether they have the discs they're supposed to have. It would then be a simple matter to check the part number hsafronchik has provided and see whether it's the retail disc or a model-specific one, and which model it belongs with. The fact that its part number begins with 2 suggests that it's part of a model-specific set, but it evidently isn't the right set for whatever model hsafronchik's computer is.

Thanks thanks....

It's posible that the disc is not the correct. Prety unlikley??

But have in mind I'm almost a beginner with problems with my mac. It's the first I have. So, my statement that my computer came with 10.6.6 could be wrong.

So is there a way to know the version of Snow Leopard that came with my computer?
