Every time I download a zip file with Safari, it unzips it. I don't want them unzipped. I can't seem to find a way to undo the 'convenience' of modifying files I'm downloading.
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)
Safari > Preferences > General > Open "safe" files after downloading: uncheck.
That fixed it. I guess I didn't really know what a 'safe' file was. Thanks
After that Mac Defender trojan, it should be everyone's duty to pay more attention to that 😝
I know this thread is now 1.5 years old and was solved to the original poster's satisfaction, but unfortunately I have the same problem and it is NOT solved by standard advice of simply unchecking Safari > Preferences > General > Open "safe" files after downloading.
I have unchecked that box, even restarted Safari and still if I download a .gz file it gets unzipped. Anyone have any other advice?
I'm running mountain lion (10.8.4) and Safari 6.0.5.
