Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Windows 7 connects to VPN, but then won't reconnect.

I have read a couple of articles on here about this situation, but have yet to find a solution.

Here's the problem:

I set up a L2TP VPN connection on Windows 7. It connects fine the first time. If you disconnect and try reconnecting, the Win 7 client will just sit there and not negotiate a connection and nothing ever shows up in the log on the Mac server. The Win 7 client will eventually time out with an error 789. Stopping and starting the VPN on the Mac server will reset everything and you can connect from the Win 7 machine again, but ONLY the one time. Eventually, the Mac server will time out and the Win 7 client will be allowed to connect again, but only the one time.

My logs:

I notice in the log that when a Mac client disconnects, it will show...

I'm wondering if the LCP Termination Request is not being sent from the Windows machine correctly and the Mac server does not know how to handle it, so it freezes the process for a while until it resets itself or the VPN process is reset by stopping and restarting it.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Windows 7 connects to VPN, but then won't reconnect.
