Should I get a Speck 15" SeeThru Case or an Incase 15" Neoprene Slim Sleeve for my MacBook Pro?

I want a case for my new 15" MacBook Pro and I don't know which of these two to purchase. I mainly use it for school work. Price isn't a big deal because they are only seperated by $10. I like how the Speck case actually protects it while the sleeve provides a nice way to get it from place to place. Any sugestions or reviews would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The Speck case, for me, adds too much girth and weight to your MBP. How much protection do you want with an aluminum computer? Unless you plan to drop it in the floor, what's the point?

The Incase Neoprene slim sleeve is similar to the one I use. It's not very effective for protection, but it's quite light, and fits right into the back of my backpack.

You will want to ask a few questions before purchasing:

1. What kind of protection do you want?

2. Do you mind the weight and girth of a plastic case?

3. Are there other cases that are even better to what you're considering?

Visit your local Apple Store, if only to look at the options. This might open yourself to options you may not have considered.

Understand that the plastic cases are heat barriers that will inhibit the dissipation of the heat the the MBP generates. Heat is a mortal enemy of computers. I also question how much protection it will actually afford your MBP.

When you use your MBP, keep it naked. When you travel with it, put it in a nice sleeve and keep it comfortable. You paid a premium for it so treat it with tender loving care.

I've had Speck covers for a MacBook, MacBook Pro, and two Airs (which basically means I like them). They actually add very little bulk (especially with the Air) and I haven't seen any heat related issues (or seen any comments with respect to heat related issues). I do prefer the "Satin" line as they have a matt finish that has a rubbery feel (sort of like the finish on the ThinkPads). I'm sort of neurotic with respect to my electronics. With a sleeve, or carry case... pretty much the only time your machine would get scratched, scuffed, or otherwise marked up would be when it is out of the case. With a hard cover, it's always protected. If I'm doing work on my desk, I'm comfortable laying a screw driver on top of it, etc as I don't have to worry about scratching it. I also pretty much always give my old machines away at some point. I keep all the packaging as well. I just like to be able to give something to someone that at least looks new... even if it isn't. There's probably no practical reason to have a hard cover other than for cosmetic protection... and that's pretty much the only reason I have them.
