How do I hook up an external microphone to do karaoke

I have a Pyle preamp microphone setup that I would like to run through my Macbook Pro 17. It has a USB port on the front of the preamp, can i just plug that in to the Macbook and change the mic settings? Everyone talks about recording but I want to be able to send the karaoke and mic sound through one port on my amplifier at home. Any ideas?

you'll need to go to your local electronics dealer and get User uploaded file

or something like it. A lot of people who had ipod back in the day would probably have a whole bunch of these laying around.

Take the red and the white plugs and put them in where it says "rec. Line out" and plug the stereo headphone jack part into your computer. You'll have to turn on Garage band or an app that uses the line in to get the sound to come out of it then.

What this is made for is to plug into a Receiver which will then broadcast the sound to speakers. What you are doing is sort of backwards in a way but will work if you want it to.

You should look into getting a stereo receiver or something to get the best effect.

Good stuff thank you. Well what I am trying to do is hook all this up to a reciever at my house so I can do karaoke. Its a Harmon/Kardon and you can only use one source at a time.So I have an adapter coming in tomorrow to make the video out on the computer to go to an hdmi that will go directly to the tv. Then I have the adapter like you have pictured that will go to the microphone pre-amp. Then I will need another adapter like you have pictured to get the sound to the reciever from the computer I think. How do I get the pre-amp to work on the reciever?

ok so you don't need to put the pre amp to the computer. you need for it to come out of the reciever. your dilemma is that you aren't able to play the instrumental song with the mic.

this is how you should be connecting them to get what you want. scratch the whole idea of putting the sound through your computer.

you have the preamp, you plug in the rec, line out with RCA to RCA User uploaded file

to the receiver. Plug it into the red and white inputs of a reciever.

now get your laptop. This is assuming this is the source for the video and audio for karaoke. use the cord mentioned before and instead of plugging the headphone jack into the line in, plug it into the line out of your computer.

plug the red and white plugs into the AUX line in inputs on the Pyle.

plug in your mDP to HDMI connector to the TV.

Now turn everything on. The video and sound will play from the MPB but the sound is being directed through the preamp which then picks up the mic and then the preamp take the sound from the computer and the mic sounds and sends it to the receiver which is then playing both the audio and video. The TV is playing the words and will be synced to the song perfectly since the computer is playing all the media at the same time.

I imagine there are other ways where you could have just the HDMI coming out of your computer but then you would connect your TV's sound output to the auxilry input of the Pyle.

I would try either method, but I wouldn't run the sound through the computer. the computer.
