Apple World Travel Adapter Kit????????

I live in the USA. I have a new PB G-4 12" and was thinking about bringing it with me when I travel to England next month. It suddenly occurred to me that I wouldn't be able to plug my laptop into a power source without some kind of an adapter. I was looking at the one at the Apple Store, but when I read all the commentaries by users I got a lot confused and a little bit worried.

Will somebody who has a USA PB and travels to the UK please advise me as to what I might need to get that will safely work on my PowerBook G4???

Thanks 🙂

brand new 12" PowerBook G-4 (ah! LOVE it!), Mac OS X (10.4.4), 768MB memory...but I know that I'll be wanting more

Hi there,

I bought the Apple adapter kit for traveling to The UK (and other parts of Europe). It works very well. The fact that it is designed to click into place on the white power supply,is a nice touch, and makes me feel a little safer. Although I could probably use a travel adapter, the type I see in the gift shops at the airport, I like having the Apple specific kit. It seems expensive, but I felt (and still do) it was worth it after spending the $ on a PowerBook.

You could just get a US to UK plug adapter. The PowerBook's power adapter can handle the 240V British electricity, so all you need is an adapter to fit the socket (outlet).

The Apple World Travel Adapter kit is a neat solution, but it's way overpriced for what it does. You should be able to pick up a US -> UK adapter in the UK for about £3 -£5 (any UK airport will have them), and you can use it with other electrical devices too (assuming they can handle the voltage). I believe they're more difficult to get in the States.

I'm in the opposite situation to you, in that I'm currently in the US with my PowerBook from Ireland (same plugs as the UK). A UK -> US plug adapter is doing me fine.

When I was in London last year, the hotel room had one outlet which fit American appliances. I've learned to travel with a power strip so was good to go. Depending upon where you're staying, you may not need to worry about it...email your hotel and ask. If you need it, Radio Shack sells UK/US converters fairly cheap. BTW, I just heard that the entire city of London is going WiFi...how kewl is that?!?

Hi...
Well, I thought long and hard about it and weighed the advice and the costs versus the occasional reports of negative consequences and went ahead and purchased the World Travel kit for my trip. The reason being that okay, the price is high but not as high as a major repair would likely be if I trusted a non-Apple adapter and it was junk...like some of the clothes I've purchased online lately and had to send back. 😟

I'm still not sure if I'm going to bring my PB with me...if I do, I have the plug and with enough other plugs for a trip around the whole world. I guess I could sell the spares that I will most likely never, ever use...on eBay.
