ePub conversion of a book made by iBooks Author ?

No converters have surfaced yet that I know of.

My advice is to not master in iBA. Use Pages, calibre, etc. and then work on an iBA version downstream.

Not sure where you learned that an epub formatted file is needed to apply, sorry. It wasn't that way for me (paid account) when I came in last year.

Those are requirements _after_ you are accepted into the program....not for applying. You only need to supply pertinent info and at least one ISBN-13 to apply.

After you are accepted, you will have access to iTunes Producer, which works with iBooks Author and/or a qualified file in e-pub format.

As long as you can output to a verifiable e-pub format, that's fine too.

I'm confused tho, as you originally asked "Does iBooks Author convert to ePub...?" That made it sound like you're using iBA...

No, you don't need that. The format created by iBooks Author, called .ibooks, is just fine, countless people have already done it. .ibooks can only be read on an iPad, while .epub can be read on other devices as well.

Content Requirements:

• ISBNs for all titles you intend to distribute (ok with this)
• Able to deliver book content in EPUB format, passing the latest version of EpubCheck (?)

It's all seems a bit confusing doesn't it? Here's my explanation ... Historically, to add a book to the Apple iBookstore, the file needed to be in epub format and pass a valadition check. So, we all learned how to do that. Now, Apple has added a new format, .ibook. To make books in this format all you do is create a book using iBook Author. There is no need to convert ibooks made in iBooks Author into epub. They meet Apple's specifications. In fact, ibook is a type of epub.

So now we all have to ways to get books into the Apple iBookstore: epub AND iBook Author.

I just ran into this post and had a related question, if anyone can help. When you publish an iBook, Apple requires a sample book in addition to the iBook, and I could not upload the sample book in iBook format. It only seems to accept .epubs. Does anyone know how to get the iBook sample uploaded or how to convert to .pub within iBooks author.

I have uploaded 30 books - all in iBooks (iBA) format. The preview did accept iBooks format. There must be something wrong in your process - are you using an older build of iTunes Producer?
