Feb 15, 2012 10:55 AM in response to 1xtnby iCare,★HelpfulWhat happens when you put a DVD into the driver? Does it spin up for a few seconds then eject it?
What types of DVD media have you tried? Are you trying to use pressed media like a movie or application DVD, or are these DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, other? Have you tried other DVD media?
Do these DVD discs work fine on other systems?
Some people purchase lens cleaner discs when they encounter issues like this. If you simply have dust on the lens then you may resolve your issue.

Feb 15, 2012 2:17 PM in response to 1xtnby ljman,★HelpfulI'm also having problems with CD-R disks mounting. I used an Epson installer disk for a printer fine yesterday, but when I put in several TDK new CD-R disks, they would be spit out in after 10-30 seconds.

Feb 15, 2012 11:42 PM in response to iCareby 1xtn,Sometimes disk spins for 30 seconds or so and is then ejected. On other occasions it will come up with dialogue saying disk isn't recognised or formatted.
I'm trying to mount DVD-Rs supplied by a photographer. Seem to have problems with DVDs generally, although CDs seem OK.
I can load the DVDs fine on MacBook Pro.
I'll try a lens cleaner disk if I can find one!

Feb 16, 2012 12:29 AM in response to iCareby 1xtn,Dear iCare
On another note, my 27" iMac as previously described has developed some blotchy patches along the top edge of the monitor and a 2cm splodge towards bottom right hand side. Whilst this is annoying, I can live with it for the time-being. I work with this iMac all day long and not being able to have access to it would be a problem for me.
I understand from what I've read on the internet this is caused by "de-lamination" of the monitor. Do you know if this is likely to become a worse problem and is there anything I can do to rectify it? The iMac isn't more than two years old.
Thanks

Feb 16, 2012 12:32 AM in response to 1xtnby shldr2thewheel,The drive accepts discs but they do not mount or are automatically ejected
- Check the disc's surface for scratches and dirt, since these things can prevent the disc from appearing on the desktop.
- Reset the Power Manager (PMU) or System Management Controller (SMC).
- Ensure your drive can read the specific type of disc being used. For example a "combo drive" can read a DVD-R and burn a CD-R however it cannot burn a DVD-R. The utility System Profiler may provide additional information regarding what media your computer supports.
- If the discs continue to not be recognized, please contact Apple, contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional troubleshooting, evaluation, or service.

Feb 16, 2012 12:33 AM in response to ljmanby shldr2thewheel,Macs are VERY picky about what blank cd's/dvd's they will accept. Verbatim is a brand that is known to work well.
