how to reduce photo file size in iPhoto

File -> Export

Note the Jpeg Quality setting. That has the most impact on file size.

When in iPhoto, highlight the photo(s) you want, and then click on the "Email" button at the far right of the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. You then have a choice of 4 sizes (small, medium, large or actual size). The estimated size of the image(s) is shown in the "mail photo" window.

Pick the size you need, then hit "Compose message". You will be taken to your email program and you can do the rest.

The problem with this solution is that unless the user has paid for an upgrade to their Yahoo service there is no way to use it with an email programme.
