Q: I am trying to copy my photos from my mac to my external hard drive. I have tried to copy and paste but it won't allow me to do so. I am a new user of iMac, so far windows is so much easier can some one please help me.

    Just drag them over.  You can drag files or folders and drop them into folders on the destination disk.

     

    For example click on a folder on the source disk and keep the mouse button pressed. WIth the mouse button still pressed move the pointer over to the desitnation folder on the external disk.  When you are pointing to the desired place let go of the button.

    Note, you may find it convenient to allow your external drives to appear on your desktop (assuming they are not there already).  In the Finder, Finder menu, Preferences, click General.  Then check the checkboxes for the items you want to appear on the desktop.

     

    Incidentally, FYI, you are in the Mac Pro forums. Your signature says you have a macbook pro.  So you might want to address future questions over there in the macbook pro forums. ... or ... after rereading your post I guess it should be the imac forums.
