I just purchased a time capsule. I would like to use it for Time Machine backups of 2 macbooks, as well as to store photos on that i can access from the macbook. Can't copy photos.

Just purchased the time capsule. I am trying to use it for both back-ups (via Time Machine), as well as to store photo's on since my macbook HD is almost full. After backing up 1 macbook, i tried to copy the iphoto directory, and got an error.

Is this possible? And am i doing something wrong.

Time Capsule 802.11n (4th Gen), Mac OS X (10.7.2)

The experts in the iPhoto support area strongly advise against trying to move your "original" iPhoto library to the Time Capsule.

For one reason, if you do this....you have no backup for the library....since the "original" is now on the Time Capsule.

Suggest that you check with the experts in the iPhoto support area for even more serious reasons on the dangers of doing this.

I recommend that you do neither of these things.

The TC is a network drive. If there is any break or interuption between iPhoto and the iPhoto library when iPhoto is writing to the disk, this can easily corrupt your entire library. I imagine that PhotoShop and other programs work the same way.

Strongly recommend....as will the iPhoto experts if you post in that area....that you keep the library on a USB or FireWire drive directly attached to your Mac....not on a network drive.....especially true if you are using wireless.

Simply stated...I would never do this....even if I had backups for the iPhoto library.

That may bring up another question for the "original" data that you plan to store on the TC. Do you have a plan in place to backup the "original" files that are on the TC?
