Feb 16, 2012 10:22 PM in response to DaveLinCTby andrewjfletcher,Yes, on my Mac Pro the new Messages beta does restore support for the external iSight cameras. It was a major disappointment that they discontinued support in Lion, glad to see this coming back.

Feb 18, 2012 7:05 AM in response to DaveLinCTby EZ Jim,I don't have a mini either, but the Messages β should work with your 10.7.3 mini.
As Andrew reports above, External iSight's camera and mic both work with the
current Messageβ on my 10.7.3 Macs, too.
This image shows external iSight selection in my current beta version's
Message > Preferences... > Audio/Video dialog:
It seems to me that the nomenclature is not consistent between the camera and microphone choices bars. However, the selections do work, and they allow
selection of any compatible camera and microphone the system recognizes.

Feb 18, 2012 3:00 PM in response to DaveLinCTby EZ Jim,My previous post showed how to select external iSight after Messagesβ is used for iChat video. However, selection method is different when using FaceTime video from the Messagesβ app.
When I launch FaceTime video using the iCon that Ralph identifies in his post above, iSight's camera and / or microphone are selected from the FaceTime > Video menu. After the FaceTime app opens, menu choices are available as shown in the following image:
Choices differ depending on what compatible devices is recognized by individual systems. Although users may see other alternatives, if a working external iSight is connected, checking (ticking) the settings shown above should enable the
external iSight's camera and mic.
