It used to connect fine, and now has stopped working. The settings say it is connected, and I see the wi-fi signal bars, but can't access any web sites or online data. This happens no matter what wi-fi network I use. I have tried resetting, restarting, making sure I have the latest OS (can't get 5.0 on my device), reset my router at home, tried public networks. Nothing works!

Thanks for your response. I didn't know about this -- just tried it, and I was able to load a web site- but then immediately the connection dropped again. Tried it several more times, and wasn't able to connect again. About half of my app icons are just white with no images, I wonder if there is a larger problem going on here....
Did you reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
I would try restoring the iPod from backup. Then to factory defaults/new iPod if problem persits.
Thanks, I took the nuclear option and restored to factory settings. Now it works! Worth it.
