Messages doesn't work through a firewall/proxy

I was delighted to see the Messages beta announced today and immediately downloaded it. However, I am behind a corporate firewall and none of my messages seem to be getting out. We happen to also have an external (non-proxied) access point and when I connect to it, Messages seems to work just fine. I am new to the Apple support process so am unsure how I formally provide this feedback outside of posting to these forums.

Messages-OTHER, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

On El Capitan, Messages is able to pick up proxy setting but only work with a direct proxy without a password. Still isnt working if there is a password required (doesnt prompt) or if a proxy.pac file used

I neglected to look at this for my first post, but in the console, I see lots of messages from imagent that look like this:

2/16/12 12:42:26.856 PM imagent: [Warning] FTMessageDelivery failed! Error (APSErrorDomain:5): Network unreachable (null)

Again, this message only happens when I am behind a firewall.

Hi,

Did you have iChat working behind the same firewalls and Proxies (It always had difficulties with Proxies).

I have the same problem. Messages doesn't work through my corporate proxy. Ichat used to work. I can't fire up Ichat again because it seems it disappears when Messages is installed.

I can use Yahoo + Jabber through my corporate proxy, but not iCloud.

There is an option to Uninstall in the Messages Beta menu.

I'm having the same issue. At home, all the IM protocols(jabber/xmpp, AIM, Yahoo, iMessages) I have configured in Messages work just fine. If I'm behind my corporate firewall all of them work with the corporate proxy I have configured except for iMessages.

Hi,

It does seem strange as the ports Apple list that iMessage uses are ones that iChat would already have.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4245

Port 80 would be used to check with the Apple Servers about Apple IDs used in iChat

Port 443 is used for Logins to both AIM and me.com in iChat 6 (This combo restricts the use of @me.com names from iCloud to iChat 6)

Port 5223 is Jabber Login port for most Jabber server including the GoogleTalk and Facebook servers.

Good Morning from Bern,

having installed Mountain Lion, the "iMessage-behind-a-proxy-problem" seems to persist, whereas the "app-store-behind-a-proxy-problem" is resolved. I found some background information about the protocol here (http://imfreedom.org/wiki/IMessage) and this is consistent with the Port number 5223 mentioned above.
