Q: -1001 TIMED OUT WHEN TRYING TO UPDATE? WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

I just purchased a Imac G5 older version 1.9 / 160gb hdd on Craigslist for the kids.  When i check for updates it says 1001 timed out...any input would be great.

    So we know more about it...

     

    At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, report the OSX version in that Window, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware> and report this upto but not including the Serial#...
