cannot install iTunes download gets to 99% and always stops. Unistalled old version but it just won't install Version 10.5. Have tried at least ten times. Any ideas Please?

hi, no error message just when I plug the usb in with the iPhone it tells me I need to update latest version of iTunes and every time I attempt this it gets to 99% downloaded and then just quits. Don't understand. So, now I have no version of iTunes on my laptop!
Also, I uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime but to no avail....I want to make a back up of all data as I am not currently using iCloud.
did you uninstall all 6 components in itunes though?

Yeah, agreed. I bet there are old components of iTunes that are giving the install of the new version grief. Follow that article and uninstall all components of iTunes. When finished try the install from apple.com/iTunes again.
Thanks guys but I really don't know much about this or components I just know that there's no version of iTunes now installed on the laptop and it still will not download latest version. Have spent best part of 4hrs on this
This is not an iPhone problem. You might want to try the iTunes forum or a Windows forum... Try creating a new user account on your computer with administrative rights and try again while logged into that account.
Click on the link provided with Katie_Bug_88's post and make sure you follow the directions to the letter there for removing and reinstalling iTunes. Also, disable your anti-virus or security software and that should help. The anti-virus and/or security software will cause issues with download and normally you will get a timeout message. Following that support document should cure your problem.

One last thing, I think I should have Quicktime installed in order to be able to download iTunes, is this correct? I have reinstalled Quicktime and there were no problems with that.
Quicktime has nothing to do with iTunes. It is not necessary to download that prior to downloading iTunes. Again, just follow the instructions in the link above, remove iTunes and then reinstall. That should take care of the problem.
