I had pink lines and shadows on the screen on my ipad 2.
1...2...3 firm knocks on the side near the power connection.
Exactly on the third knock it was fixed. Is this an odd coincidence?
Thanks for the tip.
I would try this and if this does not return your screen to normal, I would take the iPad to an Apple Store and ask them to take a look.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
My Wife’s 18-month old IPAD 2 went to dark blue screen; graphics would not return. Tried holding down both buttons to reset unit..no luck. Hooked up to i-tunes to restore to original settings….still no luck. After 3 days waiting to get a Genius Bar appointment, went to Apple Store for help; while in line, I tried turning on unit again (last kick at the can)…this time I could see Apple logo appear but graphic colours all distorted. Showed IPAD at Genius Bar; guy just looked at screen and said that I was facing a hardware issue, not software…he said there was no fix; he said Apple would provide some credit towards new IPAD, but I would still have to shell out nearly $300.00 after tax. I sat at Apple Store for 30 minutes Googling this issue. After 30 minutes and no new findings, I was resolved to replace old IPAD for new one. On the way back to front counter, I wondered if the IPAD 2’s magnetic cover could be used on new IPAD. Took off magnetic cover from my unit, laid it over new, packaged magnetic IPAD cover on display..yup, same size. Returned my old magnetic cover to my IPAD and I was astonished to see my IPAD screen image suddenly restore. I turned my unit on/off several times..all good. I told the Apple folks about my IPAD resurrection …they were not all that impressed nor interested..what they were was busy with other people. The timing of the restoration makes it appear as if I was having a problem caused by the magnetic sleep switch; I asked the resident “Genius” how I disabled the cover sleep option..he showed me, I closed the cover, put the cash back in my pocket, but went home feeling disappointed that Apple was so quick to replace the unit before much was done to diagnose possible causes...no checklist to go through.
I'm thinking eventually there will be a class action in regards to this if apple doesn't acknowledge this issue, and rightly so. There has been frequent signs of carelessness when it. Comes to hardware issues and the so-called "Genius" bar. Apple used to stand by there products proudly because they were made with quality in mind and not quantity, but that has seemed to change in the past decade. I have original iMacs that have never needed service that are still working today. It was a mistake to ship out the iPad 2's, and Apple should recognize that and offer a replacement or a fix, because you are always going to have this problem just waiting to happen. Even a slight bump can set your screen to this condition. I have seen it happen. Not everyone can "walk" into an apple store and not everyone can afford to come out their pocket and buy a new iPad either. They did the same thing with the iPod Touch 1st gen.
I honestly thought this was a troll post and not real advice. Later I reached the point where I knew I would have to take my ipad in or throw it away, so I figured what can it hurt now? Three was by no means a magic number, but every time I rapped on the spot by the power input the lines on the screen would flicker or change configuration. It took about 15 - 20 knocks but the screen came back and everything is fine now. Time will tell if this "fix" lasts, but it's real.
I was using this ipad while teaching my yoga class tonight and carelessly dropped my bag into my trunk forgetting it was in the side pocket of my gear!! I get home and the screen was blue, not responding to reset...😢 i was on major panick mode. LOL
Now, I tried hitting it on the couch, the floor, 😐 cause I knew I was doomed... 295 repair is not in my cards!😠
So then I remembered the tapping with a hammer.. but all i could find was my 5 lb weight.. heh heh👿
so I said..I have nothing to lose. two hits, and BAM! 😎 It is working!!! I am holding my ipad like a newborn now.. no more careless traveling. Thanks to all who posted.. LOL and I laughed at the Fonzie comment too funny!
If none of you posted, I would have been out my ibooks, music.. wow just so grateful I have a couple of weights layin around..and some savy ipad users!
HI all, my IPad fell from a coffe table to a carpeted floor and the screen went all fuzzy pink and blue. I tried all reboot, turn off and holding button tricks to no avail. Then I read some posts on the hammer tapping technique on the power intake side of my IPad and it worked. It really worked with just 2 taps. My IPad is working fine now and I am overjoyed. Thank you too all who posted this fix previously.
2-3 gentle taps at the side of the case near the power connection with a hammer did the trick, This ipad is back to working order and fully functional.
Yes!
the 3rd tap with my hand resolved the issue :-)
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for the advice everyone, 3 taps on the back of my iPad made the blue and pink lines disappear.
Try to hold the home button and lock/unlock button so that the screen will be black and turn it off normally.
Two slaps on the apple worked for me! Feel kind of like Fonzie. Why on earth would that fix it?
Me too! Me too! I can't believe it worked, but it did!
3 firm taps on the back with a remote control and no more pink lines/red lines 'crackling' through images. Phew!
Why then are they so many people takeing shuff back to apple every day because the apple it not so good
tthey just want your money
