Lion never shuts down once I use iTunes

After the upgrade, Lion never shuts down my 13" MPB - it only gives me the spinner with the white background. I have pinpointed the problem to iTunes - if I don't start it, everything is fine.

I have already checked the logs via console but haven't seen anything suspicious.

I have just recently updated to 10.7.3 - no changes there.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

Thanks for the reply,

When reinstalling iTunes, there is no need to delete it. Just use the download link I provided, and install it. It will automatically replace the old application. (Your library will remain intact).

You may like to repair disk permissions as well, this often solves some common issues such as yours. You can find out how at the link I have posted below.

You can reinstall iTunes on top of itself if you really feel that's the cause of your issue. I have a Macbook Pro (mid-2010) running Lion 10.7.3 and I'm not experiencing any issues with shutting down after using iTunes. I still have intermittent issues, however restarting/logging off/shutting down whenever my system becomes unresponsive in Safari (after a forced quit) due to the onboard Intel video adapter. I get the same as you with iTunes.... white screen with never ending spinning progress wheel.

When I use the nVidia GT 330M adapter, all is good.

Try renaming "AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext" to "AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext.old"

The kext is in /System/Library/Extensions/

I had a lot of performance issues with iTunes on both Snow Leopard and Lion until I disabled this kext. Itunes works 100% without the kext, I've not had a single issue without that kext and I have an itunes that doesn't misbehave.

No, that thread's about the nVidia. The issues I've had are similar to that post.

My issues are with the Intel HD Graphics adapter. Even Apple is aware of issues with the Intel adapter. There was a video update (MacbookProVideoUpdate1.0) that Apple put out which didn't completely fix my issues, but it did make them less frequent. Disabling AGS seems to be fixing my issues. It's only been a couple of days with that disabled and so far so good. No intermittent unresponsiveness.
