I'm still running 10.6.8. Will I need to install Lion (10.7) before being able to install Mountain Lion (10.8?)?

You cannot download OS X Lion 10.7.x now anyway, Apple have removed OS X Lion completely from the Mac App Store you have to upgrade straight to the OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 if you have at least OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8. But beware of what you may be looking forward too with OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 as reading many reviews people with older Macs that are compatible with Mountain Lion they arent being able to use such operations like AirPlay Mirroring via Apple TV etc.

And for people who are qualified for the 'Free Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion 10.8' you have to go to the Apple Website and request a free copy.

Hope this helps and enjoy OS X Mountain Lion, I sure am 🙂

Check your model and find out when it was made. If you bought it in 2008, but was an older model for some reason they may be the cause. That is what it sound slike.
