The camera on my Imac does not work it says "There is no connected camera" and there is one built in.

The camera does not work what happened it says "There is no camera connected" and it has a built in camera what happened?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Typically this means another process is using the camera.


First, check that it is not a hardware problem: Go to System Profiler > Hardware > USB and make sure that the Built-in camera is listed in the USB device tree.


Second, in Terminal.app enter the command

sudo killall VDCAssistant
which should stop any other processes that are using the camera, freeing it up to be used by Facetime.
