Korg NanoKontrol 2 and Logic9/Mainstage

I've been using a nanoKontrol (actually I'm still using the 1st generation nano) for the past couple of years in my live setup. It's been great. I use for just about everything you mentioned except patch changes. For those I use my keyboard buttons but I'm sure it would be no problem to set patch changes using the nanoKontrol. For $60 it's a no brainer in my opinion.

Yes, it's a huge value for the money. If you can, find a first gen., like Robert's. For some reason they went from 9 sliders to 8 in the second version. Especially if you'll be assigning them to organ drawbars for some patches.

And get the black - looks way cooler than the white. ;-)

Ditto on the first gen unit. You can also change "scenes" so each scene contains a different set of controllers. I use mine to control everything for live performance, and now don't use a mixer; just the Nano controlling DAW stuff and my MOTU Ultralite with CueMix FX software.

A tip for you after you get the nano ..... download a free copy of MIDIPipe software, which you can use to reassign nanokontrol settings as they flow to MainStage. For example, the nano won't send program change numbers (which can be used to select patches in MainStage), but you can set MIDIPipe up to convert any midi note number (on or off) or a control message into a patch change message. Very useful, and works without a hitch.

Hey man, sorry for contacting you out of the blue here but I'm having huge problems with Cuemix and Nanokontrol. What you are doing with your live set up is exactly what I want to do and the reason I bought an Ultralite and NanoKontrol. (In fact it was reading this post that decided me!)

The problem is: I can't get it to work at all!!!

The Cuemix wont see the NanoKontrol in the Controller options. Could you please, please, please send me instructions on how you do it?? I'm at my witts end here (£400+) down thr drain!!!

CueMix has lousy MIDI control capabilities. I have, however, succeeded in controlling channel volumes for "Mix 1" (but nothivia the nano. You will first need to set up a direct link between your nano and a virtual Mackie device using Audio MIDI Setup.

Thanks for the rapid reply! One of the problems I'm having is that the NanoKontrol shows up in Audio/Midi setup buth without any ports/arrows! This means that I can't route the little arrow/connector things to anything!! Is this the same for everyone else?

As an alternative, I've been looking at ICON iControl and iControl Pro (motorised faders) as they seem to be using Mackie protocols. Can anyone confirm/deny this and/or their compatabilty with Cuemix FX?

As far as the nanoKontrol goes that's how it appears in my audio/midi setup. I've had no problem setting it up with either Mainstage or Logic. I'm not sure about MOTU's Cuemix. I've never used Cuemix. Good luck!

Do you have the latest nano driver/sw? It shows up with one port in, one out arrow on my setup. From their it is wired with ins and outs to a created input device manually named as Mackie (manufacturer) and HUI (Device Name and Model).

I use the first generation nanoKontrol so I might not have the latest driver. I bought the nanoKontrol 2 but I like the first generation knob setup better.
