How to install Canon LBP3100B printer driver for Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3

I have just upgraded to Lion and now my Canon LBP3100B Laser printer does not work.

I went to the Canon website and downloaded the latest driver update MAC_CAPT_V34-_uk_EN (CAPT Printer Driver Ver.3.40 for Mac OS X 10.4/10.5/10.6/10.7)

Either I'm not installing it properly or it only works up to 10.7 and not to 10.7.3.

Could somebody please help by telling me

(a) how to install it (it doesn't come up in the printer list after install BTW) and;

(b) if this driver is not compatible with OS X Lion 10.7.3 and finally

(c) is there a work-around???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The CAPT driver works on 10.7.3, so that is not your issue.

With the printer connected to the Mac via USB cable, it should appear in the Default Add Printer browser. So when you click the plus to add a printer and select Default view, do you see the 3100?

If it is not shown, this is not a fault of the driver but either the USB cable or the printer. Since USB cables have caused all sorts of printing issues over the years then I suggest you start there. If you have another USB printer cable then connect this between the LBP3100 and the Mac and see if the printer is listed. You can also open System Information (Applications > Utilities) and under the Hardware section in the left sidebar, select USB. The top right pane will show all USB busses on the Mac and the printer should be listed under one of these busses if the cable is okay.

The printer is showing up fine in the hardware section but when I search for the driver in the software list it doesn't come up even after I've downloaded it.

So I click on "other" and open the driver that i've downloaded and then go to the icon that says CAPT Installer and click open. Then nothing happens. The driver doesn't attach itself to the printer.

Unless I'm doing it wrong I don't know how to make it connect that driver to the printer.

Help!!

A couple of things to note.

After downloading the driver you need to run that CAPT installer. You cannot browse to this CAPT installer from the Add Printer browser. By running the CAPT installer it will copy the Canon files to the correct location on the Mac.

With the CAPT installer completed you then add the printer via the Print Using menu by choosing "Select printer software" - not by choosing "Other". If you then typed CAPT in the search window, this will short list all the models of CAPT printers and your LBP3100 will be one of them.

Hi PAHU,i've recently upgraded my iMac to 10.8. I downloaded the latest Canon driver (version 3.55) from Canon site, and tried to add the Canon LBP3100 for the first time to my iMac. I did what you said, and I can see LBP3100 CAPT in the driver list, and added the printer. However, when I tried to test printing, it stays "sending the file to the printer" in the statusmonitor, and evetually it doesn't print any pages at all.

Do you have any solutions to fix this problem? thanks in advance

The first thing to check is the printer queue that has been created on the 10.8 Mac.

From Finder, navigate to Applications > Utilities and open System Information. In the left column, select Printers. In the right column, select the LBP3100 and copy and paste back here the entry that starts with URI.

thanks for the reply. I followed ur steps to check the printer queue. I could only copy the URI link (which is:

usb://Canon/LBP3100/LBP3108/LBP3150?serial=0000A29AIAWT), however, i couldn't paste to the same place (if im not getting wrong?).

Please see the screenshot as below. Is everything correct there? I still couldn't print anything. 😢

Thanks for showing me the URI. I did mean just copy and paste it back here so I could see what you have set.

So the print queue URI is incorrectly set. The most likely cause is the CAPT Backgrounder process is not running on your Mac. To check, open Activity Monitor and browse through the list. If you don't see the CAPT Backgrounder then open Finder and navigate to HD > Library > Printers > Canon > CUPSCAPT > Backgrounder. Here you will see the CAPT Backgrounder icon. Double-click it. Nothing will appear to happen but if you check Activity Monitor again, the CAPT Backgrounder should be listed. If it is, open Print & Scan, remove the current LBP3100 printer and add it again. Then open System Information again, select Printers and check the LBP3100 print queue URI. It should look something like "cnbma://localhost:59687". If it does, then see if you can print.

I had a similar problem with the print queue URI being incorrect (printer Canon LBP3100 and OS 10.8). The backgrounder was running. I contacted Canon and they suggested to reset the printing system:

You can do this by going to the apple sign in the top left corner of the screen -> system preferences -> Print and Scan -> Right click under the list of printer (in the white area) or hold CMD and left click and press "Reset printing system". Then, please add your printer and try to print.

I did it and it worked.

I hope this helps others that have the same problem.

Hi,

I have had trouble also loading my LBP3100B with OSX 10.9.1. I have downloaded the driver from the Canon website and ran the app file with it saying it had installed but with no luck when i go to load the printer. I attempted to follow the same instructions however when i go to add the printer in printers and scanners, the drivers do not show up. Any help would be much appriciated.
