Where (What) Is CoreServices?

I downloaded an online printer manual from Canon which installed a bunch of xxxxx.help files. It doesn't work. Canon says I need the application Help Viewer in the Library's CoreServices folder. I have no such folder on Snow Leopard, Leopard or Tiger.

Canon unhelpfully tells me to ask Apple.

Anybody know what they're talking about?

CoreServices are found in /System/Library/CoreServices

I am looking on my 10.6.8 machine and I see: /System/Library/CoreServices/HelpViewer. If you are missing that application or the CoreServices, you will need to Archive and Install your machine because those apps are part of the OS. I really doubt that these are missing because your computer would not function correctly.

Thanks, guys, but I have looked in both the hard drive library file and user library file, and no such folder appears. The Mac help menus work just fine. Here is a representative library file screen shot.User uploaded file

The same is true of two other computers I have (2 iMacs and 1 MacBook Air, all running 10.6.8).

I can't navigate to a HelpViewer application that I can't find. (I've used Spotlight and EasyFind and no such file exists.)

The mystery deepens.

hard drive/System/Library/CoreServices/HelpViewer

It's the application that gets launched any time you use the Help menu in Finder or any Mac OS X application.

If just double-clicking on those files doesn't open Help Viewer automatically, try control-clicking on any of those .help files, select Open With -> Other, navigate to the Help Viewer and select it.

Hope this "helps". 🙂
