You should really read the Mac manual...
There never has been a Start button on Mac.
To shutdown click on the Apple in the upper left hand corner and select Shutdown.
Mac is different.

Remember how you turned it on? Well, just do the opposite!
Thank you for the quick response Peatree 2, I have marked you as helpful and I will go get my manual. it worked and i will shut down but first i have another question, is there another way to shut down wihtout pressing the start button?
allan thanks for helping but your answer was incomplete
Um, you can press the little shut down button on your keyboard, just above the eject button if you have a MacBook or MacBook Pro.
And check out this link...

for keyboard shortcuts.
If you hold down the Power button for over 10 seconds that will kill the power to the Mac. This will cause the Mac to shutdown ungracefully and is only recommend in emergencies.

Thank you Peatree2 and I also tried to mark Allan as correct answer but i could only mark one. 😟 Sorry to allan! I'm going to shut down now thanks so much!
It is your Mac and your choose but shutting down by cutting the power can cause your Mac to be corrupted which is why it not recommended. I only tell you this so that you know.

Why would you want a start button to stop something?
Seriously, I would not routinely shut down your Mac. It is not necessary. Just set it to sleep in System Preferences > Energy Saver.
When you are not using it, just walk away. Things will work better that way. Most of my Macs don't get shut down except while restarting them for software updates. This might be once every couple of months.
I agree with John Galt.
Sleep your MBP instead of booting every time. It takes no time to wake from sleep, and is very power efficient,
