iPhone 4 stuck on Apple logo but OS seems to be running in background.

iPhone 4 using the latest official release of iOS5 will boot up but get stuck on the Apple logo.

I noticed that:

-Unlock buttons still turns the screen on and off (yes, the apple logo stays).

-Silent/Vibrate switch still seems to work as when I switch to silent/vibrate the phone vibrates.

-My ALARM went off in the morning as the phone was in this "stuck" state.

-I try to slide to unlock as if it were there but the screen seems unresponsive.

Thoughts?

iPhone 4, iOS 5.0.1

Have you tried a hard reset? Simultaneously press the sleep/wake and the home buttons for 10-15 seconds until the device reboots (ignore the shutdown screen).

Yes, I've tried hard resetting, putting into DFU to restore but itunes fails to restore with a generic error.

Weird, it not boots up and seems regular but it crashes and reboots after a minute or two. When it crashes it looks like a mac when it kernel crashes, as in the screen fades off from top to bottom real quick...
