Stop iMessage spam on multiple devices

Hi,

I have multiple iDevices, all my own, all registered with the same ID (the way I want it). Im finding iMessage a double edged sword. On the one hand, I can message anyone from anything and in turn anyone only needs 1 email address and the message will find me, which is great and just as I want it.

The problem is, since the majority of the time I have my iPad nearby, I turn off wifi/data on other devices since I just dont need them to be connected. What happens when I go out with just my phone and I need to use it, I turn on data and pretty much have to sit back for 20 minutes and let my phone buzz away while it pours down converstations from last week?!!

I dont want to set up unique IDs for every device and I dont want to have to edit the recieve list multiple times a week. Is there any other way to stop this? It doesnt really make sense to me that if I get a message, its successfully delivered, read, replied to, days+ old, why on earth does it feel the need to push it on to everything you own?

Thats not really a solution, more of a "put up with it".

So in the not too distant future, Ill be chatting on my desktop while my phone beeps or buzzes beside me, my pad beeps in the kitchen and the pod beeps in the sitting room, every few seconds! Not to mention my other half who also has every iDevice. This is slightly ridiculous!

I guess we could make it into a nice money spinner, turn our house into a rave if we can coordinate are conversation times...

I have this issue too and can't seem to find any way to solve it. My issue is primarily my laptop. I have a desktop, ipad and iphone plus the laptop. My laptop I use when travelling or going to client sites, and really only boot it up once every couple weeks. When I turn it on, BAM! I get inundated with old (sometimes 3 weeks or a month or more) iMessages that just come barrelling in, as you said, for like 20+ minutes.

I totally understand how iMessages works and have it all configured to have all conversations go to all devices so I can switching back and forth between desktop, ipad, laptop and phone -- I'm a mobile professional and heavily use iMessage. But ****, that's annoying. If it's more than a day old, I've seen it. I am a software engineer and LIVE on my devices. If it's more than an hour old I've probably already seen and replied. I don't need to be downloading all this random crap from 4 weeks ago. I close the app and it just pops back open again and keeps alerting me to old stuff... beep beep beep... oy.

There doesn't seem to be any setting for this.
