Behringer UCG102 Guitar Link stop working after upgrade to Lion

Hi,

I have a Behringer UCG102 Guitar Link that worked in the past (using Mac OS X Snow Leopard without any special driver, before upgrading to Mac OS X Lion) without any problem but now has stopped working. The device is working properly on Windows computers. Also I recently bougth a Behringer Xenyx 2442USB mixer and tested on a windows computer and it works perfectly. So I think it is not a problem with my mixer hardware neither my guitar link unit.

But when I try to use it any of them on my Apple MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Lion (10.7.3) they do not work. I can reproduce sounds coming from my computer to the mixer, but I'm not able to record nothing. I've followed the indications. In the Audio/Midi settings application I select USB Audio Codec as default Input and output device. I did the same on the "System Preferences -> Sounds".

Also in any recording application tested (Audacity, GarageBand, EnergyXT2.5) I selected again as input source the one labeled as "USB Audio Codec", but no sound is recorded.

I've noticed that in "System Preferences -> Sounds" in the input section, when I select "USB Audio CODEC" as device for sound input, it is not possible to change the settings for that device (it shows "The selected device has no input controls" and the Input level bar is completely at left. If I select the integrated microphone I'm able to select the input level and the bar shows the sounds the microphone record.

Something similar happens with the Audio MIDI Setup application where in the input section of the USB Audio CODEC all the level controls (Master, 1, 2) are disabled and grayed

It is clearly a problem in the driver in the latest version of the operating systems, and it seems this bug have been already reported by many people. Does Apple have any plan to solve that issue?

Hi,

i finally manage to get it working.

  1. First on my Mac i've created an aggregate device. As a summary:
    1. Connect your BEHRINGER hardware via USB.
    2. Launch Finder on your Mac.
    3. Select Utilities from the Go menu.
    4. Launch Audio MIDI Setup.
    5. From the Finder menu choose Audio/Open Aggregate Device Editor.
    6. Click + to add an Aggregate Device on your computer.
    7. Double-click on the highlighted text to enter a new name for your aggregate device.
    8. Select the devices that you wish to add to your Aggregate Device.
    9. Click on the Done button.
  2. Then on the mixer i made the following steps (those tips were provided by Behringer support):
    1. First, make sure the channel is being bussed to the MAIN MIX. At the very bottom of the mixer there are several buttons which can bus the audio to multiple locations. If you have a microphone for example connected to the channel one XLR mic pre input press the MAIN button there to send the signal to the main mix. This will also allow the audio to be sent out the USB output.
    2. Also, make sure you have pressed the 2-TR/USB button on the SOURCE section. Also make sure that the 2-TR/USB to main button is not pressed down. This will ensure that the USB is being sent to the computer.
  3. And after that i was able to record using the aggregate device as input sound source.

I have the same problem, I think.

I cannot get my iMac to recognise my UCG102 Guitar Link. I have OS-X Mountain Lion.

I then tried my Native Instruments Guitar Rig 4 Mobile, which also didn't work - until I downloaded an update from the NI website. After that the iMac recognised Guitar Rig 4. It still wont work with UCG102 though.

From my experience, I presume that this is because NI have provided an update so that users of existing NI software can use their Guitar Rig with newest Mac operating system, whereas Behringer have not (or not yey anyway)

Good Luck

M
