Canon EOS 7D errors upon import into iPhoto

Hi All,

I am having a very odd problem with my iPhoto as of late, as I'm not sure if this problem lies with my camera or with iPhoto, but my guess is iPhoto.

There are a number of shots on my Canon that I can see with the view mode, and when I attach the camera to the computer, they are visible when iPhoto asks what photos to import, but once they are imported, they either don't actually import into iPhoto, or if they do, they import as black squares - nothing more.

Any advice or suggestions as to what is happening would be so appreciated.

How are you getting them into the computer? With a card reader?

Use Image Capture and import to a folder on your desktop and use preview to open them.

Are these jpegs? Or some flavor of raw? iPhoto might not be able to open some flavors of raw like mraw.

Are these Raw+Jpeg pairs?

I am importing them with a USB cord from camera to computer.

I've never used Image Capture before, but I will give it a try right now and see what happens. *Edit - I have imported them using image capture and did not have the black boxes as with iPhoto. Any thoughts as to why this is?

You can also try using a card reader. (If you have an iMac, there is one below the disk slot. They might have become corrupted using the Camera->USB. If preview cannot open them, then you have a corruption problem. If Preview *can* open them, you have an iPhoto problem.

I have an MBA where this problem is occuring. I tried opening the photos that originally turned out as black images in iPhoto in Image Capture (worked) and then in Preview (worked).

Do you have any recommendations on how to fix the iPhoto issue?
