Does one need to have OS X Lion to get Mountain Lion OS?

I was about to get OS X Lion but I saw that a new OS is coming. Does one need to have OS X Lion on his/her Mac to have Mountain Lion OS installed on his or her Mac? Can one get the Mountain Lion OS solely by itself or does it need the OS X Lion?

Thanks.

I suppose this has not been confirmed yet, but from what I've been reading on third party sites I am going to assume that no, you will not have to upgrade from 10.7 - only 10.6.8 since it is the first version with App Store support. I don't think Apple has confirmed or denied much of anything about 10.8 yet. You can see some nice pretty pictures on the website though. 🙂
