NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB 2X24"?

Hello,

I currently am pushing two Dell 21" displays (1st gen MacPro). I would like to know if the card will instead support two 24" displays.

Display stats as follows:

Dell ST2421L 24" Widescreen LED Monitor

  • 24" widescreen LED monitor
  • Resolution 1920 x 1080
  • Contrast ratio 7,000,000:1
  • Brightness 250cd/m2
  • Response time 5ms
  • Inputs HDMI, DVI (HDCP) and VGA

Thank you for your help,

Tim

you are on Lion do yourself a favor and upgrade gpu to ATI 5770

7300GT is showing its age and does not do well with 10.7.x

If you must, or can't, it should, though have to say issues with some 3rd party displays that should, sometimes did not, that was one of the surprises back in Aug 2006.

Google that Dell model and 7300GT and Lion yet?

Here's where I'm at. All I have now is the video card. I am going to purchase a used MacPro and slap the extra card in there. Would you recommend I buy a newer MacPro along with a second video card?

I want four displays for the intended purpose. I don't necessarily need a lot of processing power, so I was going to buy a used 1st generation MacPro. I could get a newer model if that would be more compatible with the four display solution. Also, Snow Leopard would be fine. I don't need Lion.

Thanks,

Tim

How about Mid-2010 Mac Pro 4-core 2.8 $2119 Apple Store Special?

Then use the card you have or off-load and use 2 x ATI 5770

2008 and later have two 16x slots (though with double wide card you give up one).

The 2010 I think makes the most sense. DDR3 is also cheaper if you need say 24GB RAM only $340 which is a steal.

And really did not expect or realize this was a "card first" or that you wanted FOUR and not just two output monitors.

That card is very low end and only worked in 1,1 and 2,1 model and is likely on its last leg.

The NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT is capable of simultaneously supporting a 30" display like the 30" Apple Cinema Display HD (2560x1600 native) and a 23" display like the 23" Apple Cinema Display (1920x1200 native).

So my thinking is; if the weaker port on the card supports 1920x1200, and considering that the Dell 24" display's native is 1920 x 1080, (I think a little less demand then 1920x1200 right?), then I will be ok with the 24" display setup.

Would you agree with that conclusion?

Thanks,

Tim

Hello again,

I do appreciate your help.

Let me rephrase. I am just interested in the capabilities of the card being able to support two 24" displays with the resolution I specified above. Let's say all of the equipment is brand new out of the box. If that was so, is the video card in the 1st Gen MacPro, under those circumstances, able to support two 24" displays?

The rest is a decision I have to make. I just want to know if it's capable or not.

Note, I already know I can push two 21" displays with that model and the card specified above.

Regards,

Tim

Hello,

I wanted to get back to this question in case anybody else may be interested in this topic.

For those who are interested, I have two NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT cards in a first generation Mac Pro, in which I was interested in connecting four 24" displays to. I came here to see if anyone had a similar setup in working order before my money flew out the door.

As no one on board here had a system like that, I went on to take the risk and picked up four Dell ST2421L 24" Widescreen LED Monitors and connected them all to my Mac Pro system.

I am more than pleased to say that they are all working flawlessly. The Mac's video settings being all set to the default resolution of the Dell displays, which is 1920 x 1200.

I powered down the computer to move things around and connect them all. Since I have powered back up, I have an uptime now of ten days without so much as a hickup. I also use ARD to vpn into it from home and all is well with that, as I bounce back and forth between them all.

Lastly, I should mention that I am running fully patched Snow Leopard on the Mac Pro, as I seem to remember some talk about problems with Lion and multiple displays. But for me it couldn't have gone better as I have a few PPC apps anyway. I am a very happy camper now with a nice even computer tan going on.

Have a good un,

Tim
