Does anyone have a solution to the 27 inch screen going black problem?

My 27inch late 2010 imac screen goes black on startup - computer is still running, and boots up as normal. i have set up hotcorners to put the displays to sleep then wake to turn the screen back on. At first it would take one 'put to sleep, wake up' cycle and then it would be right until shutdown. the number of sleep/wakeup cycles gradually increased and now the problem has gradually gotten so bad that i will waste 1 - 2 hours, sleeping then waking the display. could be one of the most frustrating things i've ever endured.

I have seen a fair bit about this on the net. does anyone have a solution? i have heard that replacing the screen inverter may work?

thanks
