Seriously, how can people take you seriously when you write messages like this?

First, your information is wrong. The website clearly says: 1GB = 1 billion bytes; actual formatted capacity less

That means: 16,000,000,000 bytes. That makes 14.9 GB. NOT 15.6. Learn to use a computer.

Second, it has been mentionned that there is some space used by the OS.

If you can't still do the math, i'd suggest you just go whine somewhere else. And if you can do it, I'd suggest the same.

You've uncovered the mystery 2GB that Apple steals from each iPhone and then sells to Android users (they secretly have 18GB on their 16GB phones).  Clearly you're too smart for Apple... go buy an Android and get your 2GB back.  That will show Apple who the real mental giant is.

With your lack of basic knowledge about such a common issue, I really do hope your other IT skills compensate.

enlighten me then coz i cannot see how i have got this wrong coz 1mg = 1024 physycal kbytes but apple say they want to call it 1000 kbytes but binary cannot make 1000 kbytes physycally make 1 megabyte so it iis cosmetic terminology. so when apple sell 16gb occording to their math 16gb physycal gb = 15.6 apple gb so my 16gb iphone shuld show 15.6gb capacity BUT it DOESNT it shows 13.6gb capacity 2gb short of the apple definition of 16gb. icant see how difficult that is for u to see......?????????? if u cant answer with any sense then dont answer at all coz this is getting ridiculas that no one can see the problem with the math.

    1. Learn to read

    2. Read people's answers

    3. I can't believe that you work in IT if you can't do a basic bytes to gigabytes conversion

OK, let's try this. The 14.9gB are really there, which makes it correct by even your logic. The other "missing" portion is the Operating System. And being an IT guy, surely you realize that any computer needs an operating system. To confirm this theory, please go check your computer's hard drive for stated size and available space.

what ur an idiot......????!!!!!! there is no byte to gigabyte conversion at issue here even if i put my commas on the wrong place my conclusion still stands it shuld show 15.6gb not 13.6gb

Same here. Might print this thread and frame it. It's a collector.

ok stedman you are making more sense but still if you get a phone with 16gb and some of it is used by the os then the capacity still shows as 16gb like my nokia it was 80mb but 10mb was used for the os but it stil still said its capacity was 80mb so even if the ophone is using some for the os then the capacity shuld still show 15.6gb not 13.6gb and for ref when i bought the phone it was showing 256mb in use so itool it to mean that is the os but the phone still says 13.6gb capacity 2gb short of 16gb

First the correct number is 14.9 and NOT 15.6

Second apple is not Nokia. If Nokia includes the space used by the os, good for them.

    16,000,000,000 / 1024 kbytes = 15,625,000,000 = 15.6gb
