Secure empty trash?

I'm a bit confused.

I recently went to empty the trash, I can no longer find an option to just, 'empty trash'.

Now I can only find a, 'secure empty trash' option.

I only have 69 items in my trash that I'd like to clear.

But now having only the, 'secure empty trash' option (that I can see), when I select that option, it begins deleting over, 2500 items from somewhere, and tels me nothing about what or where they are.

Any help would be great, I just want to empty the trash?
