Feb 18, 2012 10:09 AM in response to hsafronchikby jpeck72,I had the EXACT SAME ISSUE with my computer (same exact kind, except I'm running OS X 10.6.8).
Don't worry. Nothing went wrong, it's just a license issue or something.
My hard drive failed a week ago, and I replaced my hard drive with a solid state drive. When I went to reinstall the operating system, the same exact thing happened.
You are probably out of warranty like I am, but don't worry, it's very unlikely you'll have to pay anything to fix it. Just make an appointment at the Apple Store at the Genius Bar, and they'll ask you a few questions about it. Tell them the message that appeared, and they'll ask what operating system you were running. Make sure you say that you need 10.6 reinstalled, and they'll go into the back room for about 10 minutes. When they get back, they'll explain what was wrong, and your MacBook Pro will be up and running. The whole thing should be free of charge.
Hope that helps.
