Hi,

"... This Thread you are also in > Link"

I have Bookmarks set for iChat, Mountain Lion filtered for Messages, Mavericks the same, Yosemite again filtered, through to Sierra (you get the picture).

I first answer all the emails from new posts (if the item needs a response)

This I start the list above and read and answer all the Unread posts in the different Communities.

I came across the link post first and commentated on it here - with a link - so that I did not repeat myself.

I am sorry that you did not find it helpful.

ralph,

i am having issues too ALL OF A SUDDEN logging into iMessages and Facetime. i will recap some of these things:

first, i have left america and gone overseas. my computer does not have location services on, but seems to know i am in greece. only issues were not being able to access US content and stupid google wouldn't put anything in english even if i had it in my settings. fixed finally! i installed (but deleted) a VPN to try to access content, hola.org but i suspect, google is doing something to block me for some reason.

now, even though i have been here for awhile, iMessages wouldn't log in and Facetime wouldn't work. First, when i restart the computer, it says "this mac cannot connect to iCloud because of a problem with (my Apple ID/email); open iCloud preferences to fix." so when I do, it asks for my password to be re-entered, so I do and quit the preferences.

then, iMessage is off line and i go to the accounts, go to login, put in my password and i get this: 'could not sign into iMessage...could not sign in, please check your network connection and try again. an error occurred during authentication."

Facetime needed to be 'reactivated' so when I logged in there, it just hung up and won't let me cancel or force quit - had to restart everything.

i am on ElCapitan 10.11.6, and i have run and done EVERYTHING in your suggestions. Disk Utility repairs, reset PRAM, ran some cleaners i had on my mac, all of your suggestions above did not work. however, i would like to point out that one restart said something about my keychain had issues. and your step #3 above, the last line in the host file: fe80::1%lo0 localhost -- that is not in MY host file. and it won't let me add it without doing some fancy duplicating.

please note: this has been a several hour process and i NEED facetime to communicate with my family back in the USA. i am NOT tech savvy so please - anything else needs to be clear and simple for this tech-for-dummies type of lady 😉 i am at my wits end because i don't know what else to do!!

HI,

At first run even though you may have had iChat "Accounts" it seems to want an Apple ID for the iMessages "Service"

This is then used to contact other iMessage users such as iPhones and iPads and Touches running iOS 5 and iMessage.

Hi,

In FaceTime you need to "Register" the Apple ID that you want to use in FaceTime.

It is similar in some respects in using an Email as the Login ID here but then choosing a Apple Discussions Alias. (not that you have to chose an alias in FaceTime but you do have to confirm you are using that ID)

Hi,

It is unlikely to be anything to do with Location.

Some ISPs (and I remember some islands had issues in iChat 2 and 3 when the SIP data was sent on port 5060) used to block SIP because they were losing out on Long Distance Call monies.

Apple have since moved the SIP data in iChat/Messages and FaceTime to ports in the group 16393-16402 for both applications.

However if you had a Email from an ISP that you are no longer with and made that an Apple ID and cannot access that email any more then that might be an issue. (Along with it's relative Location Connection)

Cannot login into iMessage. It says The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later. Any ideas ? I just updated to Imessage on Mac. I continue to get this error.

I still cant find anything that says how to fix this error. I am connected to the internet as I am writing this on my Mac. Is there any fixes for this out there?

Thank you.

Hi,

What sort of Apple ID are you using to do this ?

Apple IDs can be emails from external ISPs

They can be older names from the .Mac service ending in @mac.com

They could be @me.com ending names from MobileMe (that replaced .Mac)

They could @me.com name from iCloud that are replacing MobileMe

I have seen issues where people have used an older MobileMe name to create a iCloud Account (of the same name).

Part of this process means ending the MobileMe account which for the AIM server seems to close the account.

Any external email needs to be verified (more recent addition to the security side of things)

Use the Apple ID Support pages to Login with Manage Account and make sure the Primary Email is verified.

If your Apple ID is from the time when any random name could be used (not necessarily an email) then you may need to add an email and verify that.

HI,

Try adding a Public DNS server such as Google's 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 to System preferences > Network > Advance Button > DNS tab

If this Preferences Pane shows you greyed out IP's listed add those Manually as well.
