    H E L P

    The same thing happened again!

I can NOT log in to Imessage......not with my own account, nor with my wife`s or my friend`s account.

My account works on an I-pad by the way.

I have deleted all the imessage and facetime files in the library/preferences folder, I rebooted in safe mode, I reset the PRAM.........I don`t know!

The strange thing is that it worked fine and in the middle of a chat the messages would get a red dot next to it......and then it claimed that the other person was not registered!??

I logged out, and then I get a message saying thatn error happened, please try again later.

    Any ideas?

I did the software update this week.

    Joesoes,

I did a full reset, remember.......only last week.

Would that be the only solution though?

Is there no way of installing I-message again?

Any other options I could try?

    Yes Joesoes,

that is of course the 1st thing I tried.......last time`s solution. Made another account again.......

    Alas, it didn`t work today.

In the middle of a chat it just cut out, out of the blue.

I followed the link and according to the site there`s nothing wrong with my account.

Also, please not that may account worked on my wife`s I-pad, but her account does NOT work on my MBA!

I don`t feel like doing a complete reset everytime this occurs.

Is there no other way or re-setting Imessage?

    Cheers,

Sounds kinda wierd that the issue comes back. I'm all out of ideas, do you have Apple Care or warranty? If yes, i recommend that you contact Apple regarding this.

No I don`t have Apple Care (yet).

But I fear this is a bug which doesn`t have a solution..........

Anybody else......is there something I missed at all?

Besides Little Snitch, if you are running a modified /etc/hosts file make sure that you aren't blocking something vital there.

    You are right davshirley !

After resetting my "hosts" file to default values, I could login my iMessage and Facetime !

    How I got it:

    Backuping the host file

    1. Open a Finder and click Menu Go > Go to Folder (or shift+cmd+G)

    2. Type /private/etc/

    3. In this Finder, select the hosts file and drag it to the desktop to make a copy.

    Resetting the host file

    4. Open Terminal and type: sudo nano /private/etc/hosts

    5. Type your system passwrod

    6. Now delete everithing and type these values:

    127.0.0.1     localhost

    255.255.255.255     broadcasthost

    ::1      localhost

    fe80::1%lo0     localhost

    7. Exit with "CTRL+X", confirm with "Y" key and then press "Enter".

    Login iMessage and Facetime

    8. Run iMessage and Facetime and login with your Apple ID.

    Recovering the modified hosts file

    9. Repeat step 1 and 2

    10. Replace the hosts file by the copy you did in your desktop

    11. Type your system password.

    Done !

I can't believe that apple is silent through all of this. iMessage is broke, FaceTime is broke, safari hangs up continuously and just about anything to do with sending pictures is also broke. I loved my ipad until the IOS6 update. I can no longer trust apple and I will never spend another penny on an apple product. Ifi bought an ipad 3 it would just be as useless as my ipad 2 is right now when they force you into another update. I will send my message by buying a product that works, sell my apple stock and tell everyone I know to do the same because they are obviously on the down side.

    Hi.

Apple never reply in these forums/Communities.

The only news you will ever get is the info in the install of the Update that corrects the issue (if it is on the Mac anyway).

    Good Luck with Windows

Thanks for the encouragement Ralph. I'm not big on waiting and I believe I have waited my $1000 worth (2ipads). I just need something that works and since IOS6 that is exactly what I have been doing, waiting for apple to fix their #%€# @&. I purchased the iPads because everyone said that apple products don't crash, they forgot to tell me that they don't work either. I have never been this frustrated with another product. Good luck!

I forgot to mention that it is now 2 consecutive earnings report losses by apple. They said that it is because of the costs of putting out so many products at once. Are they biting off more than they can chew? If the new products work anything like the iPad2 with IOS6 the wrath of the stockholder won't be far behind. Is the honeymoon over?

    Hi,

iMessage is one form of account in the Messages app.

The message/alert you seem to describe would seem to come from AIM about a login to their service.

As certain Apple ID ending in @mac.com, @me.com or @iCloud.com are also AIM valid names you could be using your Apple ID for iMessages (To iPhone and iPads essentially) or AIM to other AIM valid Buddies.

If you changed you Password at Apple you would have to change it in all the places on your Mac and iOS devices that uses that Apple ID and it's password.

That could be in Messages on the Mac itself for the iMessage account and any AIM Account you have.

In the iCloud part of System Preferences > iCloud (possibly if the same ID is used for that)

In System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars  (Sort of Either/Or spot for the Messages app and possibly Mail as you can "activate" which apps a name/ID is used with.)

On your iOS devices that could be the iCloud  ID as well as the Apple ID in the Messages App settings (Mail might depend if your sync via iCloud or not).
