    HI Candy,

As of yesterday (22nd my time) just after I posted in this thread I tested Sending pic in an iMessages format to my wife's phone (via it's number) and to my own iPhone via it's Apple ID.

(There were several threads saying this was not working)

I found I had the same issues.

Today I have retested sending pics to and from my phone and it works.

There have also been similar messages about registering an Apple ID with FaceTime. Any Apple ID will work you just have to use FaceTime to tell Apple the ID will be used with FaceTime.

The same process seems  to be needed with iMessages (Any ID will work but you still need to tell the servers involved).

On the Mac both these functions are handled by a App called IM Agent that is hidden away on the System side of things.

It might be a leap but as it is the same app on the Mac it may be the same servers that hold this Activation info for both apps.

For me the issue seems to be over.

I've got a new issue Ralph. I know this is in the wrong thread but maybe you can perhaps shed some light on the matter.

After i did the PRAM reset, everything worked out great. However, everytime i restart or shutdown my mac, everything that happened before i did the PRAM reset is restored. From the website tabs that were open to the part where i have to keep logging in my password for the messages agent to work, which i believe is trying to access my keychain.

Is there any fix for this? It gets really annoying. I have to retype everything and even change my wallpaper since it wont save for some reason and just restores everything back from when i did the PRAM reset.

Hello, I'm having the same problem having just downloaded Mountain Lion since it was released.  I try to sign into iMessage and get this response from a drop-down error message.   "The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later."  Any help not involving very technical terms as I am not a developer is very much appreciated.  Thank you.

    Hi  GDMT,

That's  a new one on me.

PRAM restores used to be used in the OS version before OS X came on the scene.

It used to include more "memory" items than it does to day, even at the start of  OS X.

For instance you used to have to reset the Date and Time settings as these were cleared as well.

I would try Booting in Safe Mode

This starts the computer with less extensions and Frameworks parts  and a further restart from there can resolve issues that are hard to track down.

I would also try Repairing Permissions

This is done in DIsk Utility (Applications/Utilities) and in the First AID tab

It will not change the permissions of anything in your Home Folder (the /Users/Little House iCon one)

This may not clear things either as it sounds like either you are not Writing to the keychain or apps are not allowed to Read from it.

There are ways of checking that later.

    Hi boostedsmoke and Katbelle,

Are using this ID on two computers for Messages ?

This area, (a second computer using the same Id) is not something I tested in the Messaged beta.

I current suspect that the Messages app always tries to register the ID that is entered and in some cases it is just another device that is being Added (I think this causes the Servers some "distress")

Try going to Applications/Utilities and opening Activity Monitor.

Fine IMAgent in the list and highlight

Then use the Quit icon and Confirm Force Quit.

It will restart itself anyway if Messages and FaceTime are supposed to be Open.

    This solved it for me.

I couldn't connect with Messages nor FaceTime.

I tried turning off Little Snitch and the Firewall but still couldn't connect.

I tried creating a new AppleID but it wouldn't connect.

Once i quit the imagent process from Activity Monitor and it respawned, i connected successfully, immediately.

    Thanks!

Hey Ralph, so i did what you said. Restarted in safe mode and repaired my permissions as well. I really thought it was all fixed when i restarted back to normal mode. Unfortunately, its like nothing happened.Screen Shot 2012-07-27 at 6.16.49 PM.png

Same old problem, and this still showed up. It kept asking for that still everytime i start my mac. Browser pages also still show the tabs on what i last viewed prior from the PRAM reset.

This is really strange. Should i do another pram reset?

    Hi,

In Keychain Access how many keychain are listed ?

(And why do you have one called login_renamed ?)

In Keychain Access find the name or ID that is being a problem.

Double click on the line to open the Info panel on this item.

    Use the Access tab.

Is Messages listed as an Allowed App ?  (It may indicate any and all apps can access the info)

Here is an Account used in iChat but not yet in Messages that is set to Allow iChat to use the info along with IMAgent (means I used it in Lion)

    Uploaded with Skitch!

Another issue might be if "you" can actually Write to the said keychain (but I will come to that after you come back on this info)

    Hey Ralph,

I am currently not using this ID on another computer, but I am using it on an iPhone.  I don't see how this could be the problem seeing as how my wife is using her ID for her Messages on iMac and her iPhone.

    Hi,

Which order did you set them up in.

When I did Messages beta I set the Messages beta app first then the iPhone.

I am not sure if this is important or not.

I was having a similar problem with Messages and Facetime not working for me.  It would tell me my account was not verified.  I fixed the problem by re-entering my email address as @mac.com instead of @me.com - as simple as that!  Not sure if that will help anybody else out, but if it does, that would be great!

Well, i have it the same as yours Ralph. Before i did the pram reset, i was pretty much doing everything from what you said on getting the iMessages beta to work. From deleting some keys and so on. Before i did delete some keys, i made a backup just in case and when that didnt work, i restored from the backup hence the login_renamed. And im not sure if that is whats causing the problem as well. The keychain actually made a new "login" keychain but it wasnt really refreshing per se. So i restored my old login as well which was automatically renamed to login_renamed. And in my opinion, what mac is always accessing in terms of getting keys.

As for the access control when i looked for both login and login_renamed, it is the same as yours Ralph.
