can i take my iPad into China without it being confiscated by customs?

I've heard rumors that I can't substantiate that Chinese customers will confiscate Apple products, particularly iPads, when entering China. I'm traveling there next month and don't want to lose my iPad or iPhone!

If you are a U.S. citizen and coming back to the U.S. I would be more afraid of U.S. Customs than China. Do yourself a big favor and before you depart; go the the USCBP website and download Form 4457. Follow the directions and take it to your nearest Customs office and bring everything (electronics, camera, watch, etc.) you plan on taking with you out of country. Customs will verify the serial #'s or other means of i.d.'ing your personal items on the form. When you return this is your proof that you did not purchase those items whilst abroad and owe no import duties. Don't laugh. I travel OOC a lot and have had my personal items impounded until I could prove (sales reciepts/warranty registration proof) they were mine and purchased stateside. No proof, you don't get it back. They even tried to take my 20 year old Rolex coming back from a trip through the Caribbean. Having a Form 4457 will save you countless hours of aggravation. My work partner had all his camera equipment and lap top confiscrated coming back in a few years ago. This happens frequently...don't think it will not happen to you.

List ANYTHING NOT MADE IN USA on form. If you look on line you will see where Customs has even confiscated clothing labeled as "Made In XXXXX" (other than USA). They usually will be eye balling stuff like electronics, cameras & equipment, firearms, shoes, fur coats, jewlery, etc. The more expensive it is...the more Customs will take a look at it. If you can live without it...don't put it of the form. Form is good forever once signed by a Customs Agent/Officer. You can carry as many 4457's as you need to list your items.

And also remember, until you hear, "Welcome to the United States" and walk out the exit door (when you get out of the yellow lined box on the floor) you ARE NOT A U.S. Citizen and you have NO RIGHTS. So don't whizz the officers off or you'll end up in the "Cube". Not a fun place but after two trips inside I know just how far I can push their buttons.

You have been warned ;-)

You should try Turkish Customs regulations (I am assuming that there are some, never saw any evidence myself)
