Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

Microsoft Word for Mac (OS X) is not a free program. You can purchase it as part of Office 2011 for Mac: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/word.

However, you can use Microsoft Live Office apps with your browser on the internet at no charge to create and edit Word documents.

For more information, start here and look at Explore the Free Office Web Apps: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/

There are also free highly-compatible word-processing programs you can download and install, available as part of an office suite from organizations such as openoffice.org and neooffice.org
