I detest Mail!

Coming from Eudora, Mail really is a culture-shock.

Are there no Smileys (Emoticons) in Mail? 😟

This is a technical help forum so let us know if you have a specific issue we can help you with.

Where is this specified? At the top it says Discussions. Since when has a discussion to start with a question?

Had you bothered to read the post, you might have noticed that I actually did ask a question.

In any case, I still think that Mail is a lousy piece of software compared to Eudora.

Here you go. It is prominently included in the Terms Of Use.

Submissions

  1. Stay on topic. Apple Support Communities is here to help people use Apple products and technologies more effectively. Unless otherwise noted, do not add Submissions about nontechnical topics, including:
    1. Speculations or rumors about unannounced products.
    2. Discussions of Apple policies or procedures or speculation on Apple decisions.
  2. Be polite. Everyone should feel comfortable reading Submissions and participating in discussions. Apple will not tolerate flames or other inappropriate statements, material, or links. Most often, a "flame" is simply a statement that is taunting and thus arbitrarily inflammatory. However, this also includes those which are libelous, defamatory, indecent, harmful, harassing, intimidating, threatening, hateful, objectionable, discriminatory, abusive, vulgar, obscene, pornographic, sexually explicit, or offensive in a sexual, racial, cultural, or ethnic context.
  3. Post constructive comments and questions. Unless otherwise noted, your Submission should either be a technical support question or a technical support answer. Constructive feedback about product features is welcome as well. If your Submission contains the phrase "I'm sorry for the rant, but…" you are likely in violation of this policy.

Your signature says you are using Snow Leopard 10.6.8. So why not continue to use Eudora? That's what I use (10.6.5 though).

There are a lot of other email apps to choose from. To name a few:

Mailplane

Mailsmith

Postbox

Thunderbird

GyazMail

MailForge

I had high hopes for MailForge as a the Eudora replacement a few years ago since that was it's original goal. Not sure what's happening these days (haven't even bothered to check their forums).

And that's your right. AFAICT, nobody is forcing to use Mail.app; you don't have to use it or even like it to belong to the club. And, AFAICT, nobody here is trying to change your mind.

The problem with your post is that you say you detest Mail.app, then suggest that the major reason you don't like it is a triviality like emoticons*.

Had you said, "I detest Mail.app, and I'm looking for another e-mail client. The features I need are 1, 2, 3, 4. I tried software A, and it didn't match 1 and 3. I tried software B and it didn't match 2 and 4. Can you suggest anything else I could try?" you would have had more answers like X423424X's; and your thread would have been useful for other Mac users looking for a Mail.app replacement. As it is, your post sounds very much like a rant, and it got by and large what a rant deserves.

* Emoticons are the biggest attack on literacy since book-burning was invented. Give a teenager to read Swift's Honest Proposal, and he'll say the author was advocating cannibalism. If you then tell him that it was a bitter satire, he'll exclaim indignantly, "But I didn't see any smileys!"…

As a Level 3 I thought you may have considered the option Google > Mac Mail Programs

Just a thought

I'm still using 10.6, others on my network are on 10.7 and have a lot less choice.

I've looked at all (?) available software - not much to choose from - some of the people on my network are really stuck with Mail.

I'm waiting for MailForge - hoping it will bring a solution. I've been with them since the beginning.

I don't dislike Mail because of missing smileys, That's just a (very) tiny item in my list.

All of the programmes I looked at are deficient, however, I don't mind if small companies produce deficient products; that's human.

I do dislike it if a giant like Apple sloppy work; they have no excuse. You know quite well that Mail isn't the only deficient job, just look at Security Update 2012-001

Actually, the thread title was meant to be sarcastic - I hadn't considered that Apple fanatics don't appreciate that.😀

No, more of a silly childish rant, really, which has knocked your credibility about a great deal. So who were you expecting to respond to you here? Windows and Linux users?

You don't like Mail, have you ever thought that the feeling may be mutual and that is why it won't work for your needs?

Update to Lion. I have had no problems with it there.

Pete 😉
