Pages will read .cwk files. It can save them in MS Word format.
Pages will read .cwk files. It can save them in MS Word format.
To clarify: Pages can open .cwk Word Processing files created in Appleworks 6, not earlier versions.
Yes. To read .cwk created by AW5 or earlier, AW6 is required. I don't know of any other method.
The OP could compress and email the file to someone with AW6, who could convert it and send it back. There have been ASC participants who have offered to do so in the past.
If it's only a file or two or three I can convert them & send them back to you. I would not be able to do it until some time on Monday.
Word can usually open AppleWorks word processing files but you would get a lot of "garbage" before & after the actual content. Conversion is usually better with Word for Mac than Windows.
Thanks, Peggy. I contacted the originator and had her paste the cwk text into an email and send it. So, problem solved. I really appreciate your willingness to help. Cheers. Tom
Hi,
I went back to my eMac and converted my .cwk to AW 6.2.
However I put them on my iMac (10.7.4) and pages says that my AW 6.2 docs are not word processing documents.
Any thoughts?
Thank you.
I did take the extension off and it still faied to open this time with a different message.
"The document jetsweep could not be opened"
You could try Yvans script "which_kind_of_AWdoc.zip" to see which kind your AW files are

I've got a 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5 processor running OS 10.7.5 and I just opened a .cwk file by first opening the TextEdit.app and then going to the "file" menu and selecting the .cwk file that I wanted to open and it worked. There was a lot of "Machine" language before and after the actual body of text in the file, but it worked. I couldn't believe it.
Good idea, but unfortunately my files are not text but line and circle drawings.
Just goobledy gook.
Thanks.
Pages will not open a Draw document, only Word Processing. Are these Draw or Word Processing with embedded images? (Page should handle those.)
Draw Documents can be opened directly only in EazyDraw (the more expensive version from their website, not the cheaper one from the Mac App Store, and you will need v4.0 'Retro' not the most recent version) or Intaglio (though this appears not to be able to handle very complex drawings).
Apple Works drawings; not complex. Cirlces, lines and textboxes, it is a football playbook.
Thanks I will take a look at those options.
Even if they are simple, Pages cannot recognize nor open Draw Documents. EazyDraw (in the right version) is a practicable but I'm aftraid not cheap alternative.
Fail Apple. This topic is nearly a year old.
I don't own a Mac but my family members have a few.
.cwk files will not open in Pages. Probably because most are pre-AW6.
Some clown is trying to charge $200 US for Appleworks for Windows.
I need Appleworks for Windows to convert these stupid files.
Clarisworks>Appleworks>iWork = compatability issues. Fail Apple.
