Apple tv turns on. Remote menu button and down arrow work. Unable to navigate up or to either side. Basically unable to use apple tv in the current condition. Thought I would try the remote app on my iPhone, but you need the apple tv remote to get into settings to make the app work. Any help would be appreciated.

If a button/direction on your Apple Remote will not work anymore, try pushing the button down extra hard with your thumb (press firmly with good pressure). This short term solution worked for me when my remote would not go down or left. Good luck!

Did you you try resetting the Apple TV.
Yes, we did reset the apple tv. The remote menu works, as does the down arrow. But up, right and left won't work.
Then I'd try a restore.
How do I do that?
Settings > general > reset > restore.
I'll go to the apple store tomorrow and get a new remote. The problem is not the box. It seems to be the remote only. Easy fix tomorrow, but, no movies tonight 😟
Can't do that. Remote won't navigate right to get to the settings menu.
I think you can do the same thing by holding down the menu and ➖ Buttons for six seconds.
You might want to take the box in to and try another remote before you buy one.
