Q: itunes reorganizing and relabeling my songs when I copy them to itunes?

Yesterday I spent a lot of time reorganizing the folders of some music files.  I renamed all the folders to correspond with the dates of those concerts, or the album titles.  So after all that I copy/pasted that new folder back into itunes (after having deleted the songs that were in there).  When itunes finished placing all those songs and albums back into itunes it has them under like 5 different artists.  The band is STS9, or Sound tribe sector 9, or sound tribe sector nine, or some other stupid name.  I only want them to be under one artist, STS9.  Here's the kicker, I go to try to change the info and it changes it, but it doesn't reorganize the songs.  I'll change it from sound tribe sector 9 to STS9 and it will still be listed under the artist of sound tribe.  the 'get info' feature is proving absolutely useless here.  PLEASE HELP!  thank you!

I'm 75% confused as to what you're doing, and pretty sure you're doing 50% of it wrong.

First, unless you manually manage your music you should not mess with the file and folder labels in Finder.

Second, renaming files and folders in Finder (even if you do manually manage music) will not affect how they appear in iTunes. In just abut all cases that is done with field "tags" inside the files themselves and you need to use a tag editor to change that.  That's what iTunes get info does.

Third, do you have both album artist and artist fields set?  What about sort artist (in another tab - not sure where it is in iTunes 10)?
