I have a problem with HDD

Hi,

I have a problem with "freeze" of my MBP 2011 Later

I think it's problem with my HDD - TOSHIBA MK7559GSXF, because I found follows text in console output:

Feb 19 14:07:58 Dark-MacBook-Pro kernel[0]: SATA WARNING: Enable auto-activate failed.
Feb 19 14:12:31 Dark-MacBook-Pro kernel[0]: SATA WARNING: Enable Drive PHY PM failed.

Feb 19 16:10:19 Dark-MacBook-Pro kernel[0]: SATA WARNING: Enable Drive PHY PM failed.

What I did after:

  • run Disk Utility - all ok
  • reinstall mac os from scratch on erased partition
  • run OnyX - its not found any problem
  • run DiskTools Pro - its can't found any problem (no bads block or other)

I run XBench HDD test with follows result:

Nearest "Genius" in another country 😟

MBP buyed in USA, I'm in Ukraine now

I found only premium reseller in my town

I read many topics and found similar problem in topic https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2054387, it's similar to problem with SATA controller and EFI update. My EFI is last:

Boot ROM Version: MBP81.0047.B24

SMC Version (system): 1.69f3

Bad idea. Now if the Mac gets bumped, jarred, etc., the HDD may get damaged. In other words, in order to remove a warning, now you risk a failure. BTW, there appears to be an even newer firmware version, this is what my Oct'11 15" MBP (purchased Dec'11) has:

Boot ROM Version: MBP81.0047.B26

SMC Version (system): 1.69f3

Is your local reseller also an Apple Authorized Service Provider? Warranty-wise, you're covered, since it is worldwide for portables.

Hi,

I think I have the same problem. First my Macbook was getting slow then it begins to display a message before crashing saying that I unpluged my HDD without ejecting it but it is the internal HDD.

First I was thinking that my HDD was broken so I bought another one but now I can't even format the new one or create a partition on it.

Now I'm running my computer with an external USB adaptor and it's not slow at all !

I'm thinking of going to the Apple store see what they can do...

I'll let you know 😉

I have exactly the same problem with my TOSHIBA MK7559GSXF. I think it is a Toshiba problem. My MBP works with every other drive, nas and usb. My son is a videogrpher, familiar with portable hard drives for his video shoots and the TOSHIBA MK7559GSXF does not work with his MBP either. Disk Utility can see it but can not mount it. I'm going to try to find a solution from Toshiba. Good luck to us both!
