I'm trying to create a secure folder to pop documents in. i've tried using disk utility, failed, permission issues even though i'm adminstrator, tried the cmd line (scary) so what else? 🙂
any help welcome

There is no feature built-in to the OS which will do that. There may be some 3rd-party software out there that can do that; I haven't seen any, and would be more than a bit leery of trusting it.
One solution is to create a disk image using Disk Utility and password protect it. This results in a disk image which can not be mounted (and thus have its contents accessible) unless the password is entered.
Thanks Don. Tried the DU option, created an image but couldn't see how this is usable - i.e being able to add files and protect them.

thanks Wzzz, created the folder via DU, looks good. I dragged a test file onto it, seems to transfer....but how can I get back into the image/location to check/view etc? I was expecting a password request...
I tried going back in via DU, it allowed me in, and there was my doc, wide open and no password request.
Obv missing something v obvious...
Perhaps you did not select to not have the password saved to the keychain?
