Deleted email cannot be moved to trash
I am unable to delete email from my ipad2. The message says unable to move to trash. I've tried to swipe right to left to no avail.

Try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Then select the account on the right-hand side of that screen, select Account, then Advanced, Deleted Mailbox, and under On The Server tap the 'Trash' folder (or whatever it is called by your provider) so that it gets a tick against it - then come out of that series of popups by tapping on the relevant buttons at the top of them and then see if you can delete emails.
thanks for the suggestion, but this didn't work for me. The deleted mailbox screen shows "My IPad" and under that the trash has the checkmark. Under the trash it says "On the Server" but It doesn't allow me to make any changes. Any other suggestions?
What kind of mail is it? Specific provider? POP, IMAP, Exchange? Have you recently changed your password?
A locally owned company is my provider. It is POP e-mail. The password on my e-mail account has not been changed, but I have changed my Apple password. I also have the same problem on my Iphone 4S. Thank you !
It worked for me Washshell1,Thanks!
This has been an issue for me for some time. Thanks! I am now able to delete messages from an IMAP account!
solution doesn't work for me and if I delete by moving emails to trash it takes them off my sever. I have IMAP
That is what is supposed to happen (depending on your settings). My issue was that when I chose delete I got a message that said "Unable to delete from server". I no longer get that message and my messages are successfully being deleted from the computer and the server.
I was under the impression IMAP accounts keep your messages on the server an POP accounts delete them. In either case in my deleted mailbox nothing is checked in the server section just on my iPhone trash.
You must be workingwith a different os than me. I'm using iOS 6 and have no such screen. I have settings/mail, contacts, calendars/accounts/imap/imap account info/advanced/mailbox behaviors. On my mailbox behaviors screen there is no option to store deleted messages on server.
Sorry, I was having the same problem in Mail on the Mac too... here is the screen for iOS 6 from my iPhone found under settings, mail, accounts (choose the account you are working with).
Under IMAP click on the account, then scroll to the bottom and click on "Advanced"
Here is where you can select how long to leave the messages on server...
Also you can click on deleted mailbox and choose the deleted mail box to move the deleted messages to... I had to pick deleted messages on the server for it not to give me the error.
Hope this helps!
The way it worked on my iPhone 4 iOS5 was that it would delete off the phone but leave on the server. That's the way I would like to keep it if possible.
To do that, all you need to do is go to the advanced section under the account and where it says deleted messages - remove - change that to never.
Sounds like that would only work if my deleted mailbox was on the server and if I set it up that way the deleted emails would still end up being moved to the trash on my server. I need them to remain in my servers inbox and only be deleted from my phone.
