Will not boot into Safe Mode

Fantastic!!

I had suspected a 64bit clean issue when folks started reporting issues with memory configurations. I also saw a bug report filed against fsck_hfs on it's lack of pointer cleanliness..

It worked for me too.

Unfortunately my computer was experiencing some "spinning ball" lately and when checking the syslog after the safe boot procedure I discovered some "disk0s2 I/O errors", and a coupple of hours later the HD crashed... :-(

So it's in the Apple store now to get that fixed.

Took the oppurtunity to let them check my screen/display too, cause it has some flaws.

Hope they will replace that too.

But thanks for your clear protocol on how to work around the 2GB.

Still think this is a bug, but I will get into it again after my 27 inch iMac returns from the shop.

I wonder if it could be possible editing the MacOS startup procedure rather than changing the executable. Anyway, this is simple and clean.

This issue with fsck_hfs was now confirmed to be a known bug by Apple (ID 12906755) which is in process.

I was having the "hang at 25%" problem with safe boot. I followed your posting to the letter and it seemed to boot ok, getting past the 25% mark and boot ok.

On my MacPro 2.66 Quad-Core with 12 GB emory 10.8.4 has fixed the problem.

I concur. 10.8.4 resolves the problem. The long dark no-Safe Boot debackle appears finally over.

Yes. Finally 10.8.4 fixes this bug. But the pixelated icons are still there.

I received my iMac back, with a new harddisk and a new display.

I put back my system using Time Machine.

Then I forgot to try the Safe Boot

Then I installed the 10.8.4

And then I tried the Safe Boot, worked good.

So my problem is fixed, probably by 10.8.4.

I had lots of messages "MDS Error: unable to create user DBs in /var/folders/..." in my system log.

Many post advised to boot into safe mode, but when I tried to do so, it always stuck at the same place.

I was close to a reinstall, when I found your post.

I am getting the unfinished scan, but my machine does not hang. After about 1/3 of the progress bar, the screen goes black and then the iMac re-boots normally.

I have never seen Safe Boot Mode.

I am having the same problem ... safe mode boot progresses about about 1/3 then screen goes dark and late 2012 iMac reboots. Have you found a solution to this problem? I am running Mavericks 10.9.1.
