Axiom 61 USB problem

My Axiom 61 (latest version, black model) is no longer working on my MacBook Pro.

If I connect the device, it gets powered but it doesn't appear in MIDI configuration utility and so it doesn't work in Logic anymore. I contacted AVID support and they said there isn't a driver to reinstall and so my best (and only) option is to do a clean install.

I'm looking for advices before doing such "extreme" procedure, thanks!

I've managed to SOLVE the issue!

It's a bit strange, though.

As I said, I've tested the keyboard with other Macs and PCs and it worked fine.

I did a clean install of Mac OS 10.6 and the controller WASN'T WORKING. At that point it looked like an hardware issue of my MBP. I tested my USB with TechTool Deluxe and they were fine.

Then I recovered my previous system configuration via carbon copy so I had my original osx back.

Then I've got the idea...

I've connected the Axiom using a USB HUB (from one to 4 ports) and it was immediately recognized!

I've tested my DAW and other devices and everything is working...

If someone is able to give me a rational or scientific explanation it would be really appreciated!

Thank you 🙂

There are other choices...

Besides trying it in another Mac which is a good idea.

1. Create a new user account reboot into that account, then after the computer settles a minute plug in the Axiom.

2. Did you install or update any Axiom software, I think it's called "Hyper Control" or something like that.

3. Did you install any other USB or MIDI hardware/software that might cause a conflict... or, did you do an OS update at about the same time the problem occurred. (USB hardware as in a Printer and/or printer software)

4. Unplug all usb devices except for the Axiom.

Also... simply powerdown the Mac for a few minutes and try it again.

I followed your advices but unfortunately I'm still having the problem 😟

I've also deleted .com preferences about Audio and MIDI with no success.

Recently I've installed 2 new devices: Universal Audio 2 Laptop (via ExpressCard) and a wifi HP printer.

I unistalled both but the controller isn't recognized...

At this point I'll do a clean install and see if it gets fixed...

If you have other suggestions please let me know, thank you

That's an interesting response to me, since I've experienced a problem with my mouse plugged into the (I think USB 1 enabled) port on my keyboard - I have to plug it directly into one of the USB 2 outs on the computer itself, presumably because it lights up and the light is drawing power - I wouldn't have thought an LED would draw much power though, I dunno.

Not really important, but I guess there are some mysterious things about USB and Firewire communications that I don't quite understand!

Yes, USB can be problematic when it comes to supplying power...some of the Mac Books and Mac Book Pros have a high and low power USB port. Then there's the newer Intel chipsets (that the Macs now use) which have a lot of power saving features and can shut off ports not in use, some USB audio interface drivers "ping" the USB port so that power saving doesn't interrupt power. On thing Windows does is let you configure each USB port and whether it shuts down or not.

Some Mice have circuitry that draws more power than other mice, or it could be that the keyboard uses quite a pit of current and the mouse puts it over.
