Q: I/O error code -36 when using the fade tool. Logic 9

Hi,

Whenever I try and add a fade (using the fade tool) to and audio track i get I keep getting the message I/O error code -36. I've only got 4 short audio tracks recorded. Anyone know what this is all about ? its pretty frustrating. Cheers

    That error message can sometimes be eliviated by re-setting the record pathway.

     

    Click and hold the record button, and select record settings. Make sure there is an audio patway assigned to that particular song.

     

    See if that helps...

    Hi Jim,

    the audio pathway is set and theres no change. Ive tried saving a copy and tried bouncing out the the original audio and re-importing it to a new session and now it does it everytime, I cant even input a single fade. I've checked on previously recorded material and If i input a fade i get the same error code.

    may have been improperly written data to the drive or the hard drive or disk may be damaged.
    This is almost always indicative of a media error (hard error on the disk). Sometimes (rarely) it is transient.

    Solutions: Try copying the file to another drive. Use a disk recovery software, such as Disk First Aid to examine the disk. You can try rebooting with all extensions off. Once in a while this will allow you to read the data. The file in question should be restored from a backup that was stored on a different disk. Regular backups can reduce the time to recover from this error."

     

    I suggest that you try:

    1) Options:Audio delete all Fade files

    2) Save the project (with assets) to a different hard drive

    3) Check the File Permissions on your current hard drive

    Hi

     

    If this "bug" is as bad a you say, wouldn't you expect that this forum (and others) would be rife with other users having the same problem?

     

    Did you try any/all of the suggestions made earlier?

     

    Does the problem occur in all projects or just one particular one?

    thanks for your help, i deleted the fade files then re added them, that seemed to work briefly ! 

    It does it occasionly in other projects (so far), however Its extremley odd as i only have 5 short snippets of audio recorded in thi project, so its not exactly overloading the computer .

    I cant find anything on the web or the forum about this particular problem, so i guess its not a bug.

    actually, if you google it, there are threads about this on every major Logic forum. It's very well known and some say it's related to having the sampler Kontakt loaded. Others get this anyway. Bottomline: a big bad bug. You CCTM are you by any chance making videos on youtube for "expertvillage"?

    I dont use Kontact ever, or any other sampler for that matter. And i guess im using a different google to you. So basically what you're saying is I've got to live with it ?

    Hi

     

    Basically (to simplify), every file in OSX has 'permissions' associated with it, which relate to Read+Write, Read only, No Access (and a bunch of other stuff). These permissions apply for individual 'User' (account), groups of Users and the like.

     

    To quickly check the File (and Folder) permissions in the Finder, select the file  and use the 'Get Info' (Command I) function. At the bottom of the "Info" window, you will find the "Sharing and Permissions" section.

     

    You are checking that your User Account (<login name> (Me)) has both Read & Write permissions to the Project Folder, The Fade Folder inside that, and finally, the Fade files themselves.

    The thing is: if you get the bad version of this, you can repair permissions all day long, it won't help.

    So it's a bug.

    Correct.

     

    The Repair Permissions function within Disk Utility does not repair permissions for all files, generally only the ones listed in the receipt for a package when installed.

     

    I suggested that the OP simply check manually that the file permissions were correct for the files in question.
